Latah Creek Beach, also known as People's Park is located about a mile west of Spokane on the banks of the Spokane River. It is one of the nation's best established nude beaches. Folks have been going nude at this beach since the Spokane Expo of 1974. When homes in the area were condemned to enlarge the nearby High Bridge Park, workers at the '74 Expo set up rough camp sites and introduced skinny dipping in the cool waters. Nude sunbathing and swimming at this site has been a normal practice ever since.
DIRECTIONS: Go west from downtown Spokane on Riverside Avenue for about 3/4 of a mile. At the bottom of the long hill, near where Riverside intersects Clark, you will see some concrete road barriers and the Spokane River curving around to the right. You then hike about 1/4 mile beneath the bluffs where Hangman Creek meets the Spokane River until you reach the parking lot (or you can also simply take bus #10 to the parking lot). The nude beach runs along Latah Creek at its intersection with the Spokane River.
